About EMP

Etobicoke Musical Productions (EMP) is a not-for-profit theatre company incorporated under the laws of Ontario. Formed in 1965 and incorporated in 1989, EMP is a member of Arts Etobicoke, the Mississuaga Arts Council, Association of Community Theatres - Central Ontario (ACT-CO), Theatre Ontario, and The Canadian Institute for Theatre Technology. The Group is administered by a Board of Directors elected annually from and by the members. Every member can vote, and anyone who is a member for two consecutive years can run for the Board.

Since 1978, EMP has produced two shows each year -- one in the spring and one in the fall. Attendance averages about 3,500 for each run of 8 performances. For each production, we engage a professional artistic director, musical director, and choreographer. All others are volunteers. We typically spend $50,000 on each production.

What Does EMP Do?

Our stated purposes are to (i) study and perform at least one musical production each year, and (ii) support and further the arts in the community. To these ends, EMP and its members:

produce two musicals each year
sing, dance, act
design and build sets
design and make costumes
gather and make props
prepare publicity and programme layouts
read and select shows
engage professional directors
provide learning workshops for members
do everything and anything it takes to produce a show

Membership

A membership fee is levied for each season. A reduced fee encourages family memberships. Members receive:

a monthly newsletter
two free tickets to be redeemed on an opening performance (4 for families)
voting privilege at any general meeting
the right to run for the Board of Directors in the third year of membership
the satisfaction that comes from giving your time and energy to the community

Patrons Program

Etobicoke Musical Productions is proud and fortunate to have the funding or product/service support of a number of prominent individuals and organisations. Patrons are listed in each show program.

The patrons and sponsorship program presents an opportunity for contributions at four levels:

Bronze - a contribution of $100 to $249
Silver - a contribution of $250 to $499
Gold - a contribution of $500 to $999
Platinum - a contribution of $1,000 or more

ESA Scholarship

As of February 06, 2001, Etobicoke Musical Productions is pleased to announce the creation of a new scholarship for the Etobicoke School of the Arts. The award, to be presented annually, will be for a student majoring in Music Theatre who demonstrates ability, leadership, and community involvement.

This scholarship is funded by Etobicoke Musical Productions, a community theatre organization, with a matching contribution from the Ontario Arts Council Foundation and co-ordinated by Arts Etobicoke.

2007 Winner: Melanie Baird

On October 19, 2007 EMP presented Melanie Baird with the 2007 EMP Scholarship Award. Melanie has been a student at ESA for the past four years and has been a Music Theatre major. She was involved in their productions of Footloose, Seussical, Broadway and Cats. Melanie graduated as an Ontario Scholar and is currently attending the University of Western Ontario.
