A word from the director

A group of dancers are auditioned for an upcoming Broadway musical. The director / choreographer explains that, because they'll be working together for a long and intense period, he wants to make sure he casts the right four men and four women. So, he asks those auditioning to reveal who they are to him. He listens to their short stories of lives, loves, and ambitions. He then sends most of the group offstage to prepare a dance routine while he listens to more detailed tales of a few of the dancers' motivations. The main group is called back, and the director probes them about what they will do after they are no longer dancers. Each proclaims in a different way that they don't know, but that they won't be sorry to have worked so hard at their love of dance.
