Oklahoma!

The EMP production of Rogers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! will open less than a month after the 55th anniversary of this enduring classic's Broadway premier. For good reasons this show became the American musical theatre's standard against which all other musicals were judged. As well as being classics, the songs and dances are completely integrated into the action and character of the play. And what a play! The characters are full, brawling, earthy, sexy, and they yearn, like the soon-to-be state in which they live, to grow up and out into a larger world. Oklahoma! is no lightweight piece of fluff. This is tough, glorious, funny stuff. It was the first, and remains one of the very best examples of true music theatre.
